Abstract

How is the problem of the relation between the multiplicity of foreshortenings and the unity of the perceptual object clarified from the phenomenological doctrine of constitution? In Husserl's work this problem is studied by considering the constitution of objectivities in the field of pure subjectivity. In response to this, the following hypothesis is put forward: the phenomenological theory of constitution understands intentional contents or noemata as unities under the model of multiple objective senses around empty X that operates as a nucleus. In order to develop the hypothesis, the paper will begin by clarifying some programmatic aspects of Husserl's phenomenology that are particularly relevant to the topic under discussion, namely: the phenomenological reduction and the doctrine of the correlation between noesis and noema. Then, the way in which Husserl explains the relation between multiplicity of foreshortenings will be made explicit.
